Cuvee Speciale 2006 ~ Fitou, Cave Pilote

This wine from Cave Pilote in Villeneuve les Corbieres is bursting with rich ripe red fruits, with notes of leather and a middle smoky note,. It is not to heavy or over oaked, so makes a well balance drink. There is a pleasant soft spice finish to round it off. Good value at around 5€ a bottle.

The label is a bit misleading. It makes you believe that Villeneuve les Corbieres is in Tuchan and even uses the Tuchan postal code. In fact Villeneuve les Corbieres is a village in its own right and its postal code is 11360, and that is the location of Cave Pilote that you see on the label. How do I know this? Well I can see Cave Pilote out of my front windows. It is just across the river from me. This wine was in fact produced by the Mont Tauch Co-Op in Tuchan. Cave Pilote's been closed for the last few years, but is re-opening under the Mont Tauch banner this year.

Here is a quick video showing the village and the cave.
